My husband was thrilled to take the entire family to his company award’s celebration in San Diego. I was wary of the idea from the beginning to take kids along with us and expecting them to be without tantrums and meltdowns. On the brighter side, we will stay in a 5-star beach resort and my kids love beach. I am sold 🙂
We packed 2 suitcases full of formal, beach chic and casuals for the entire family and dragging the kids and suitcases in the airport felt relocating to San Diego. We reached the resort by late afternoon and found only a few of his colleagues brought their kids to the event. I am glad that the kids went to bed early after the exhausted long day.
My husband was off to the guest speaker event the next morning and I took the kids out to the lawn to entertain them. Both my kids are full of energy and I was on my feet chasing them around the whole time. My son is always fascinated with fountain and started dipping his hands in the fountain and soon my daughter hopped on the bandwagon. She is so creative and started tossing flowers from the lawn into the fountain. It was cue for me to move them to the next activity when she switched from flowers to mulch.
My son enjoys playing with water and he sticked to the fountain and my daughter soon moved to walking in an oversized crocs(usually her dad’s or brother’s). She struggled to walk but did not give up. The saga continued for another 30 minutes and finally she was ready to put on her shoes. This incident taught me a valuable lesson: we often aspire for bigger and grander things in life – like a higher role, a bigger home, or a nicer car – but they are like oversized crocs. We may get them eventually but it just takes time.
Finally the daddy was back. We spent the rest of the day at the beach, enjoying the warm sunny weather while kids had fun in the sand.
We missed visiting the San Diego zoo this time and saving it for the next trip!!
